Car Free Day is an annual grassroots street festival that celebrates local businesses and promotes sustainability. Along Main St on June 17th, over 20 streets were closed off to car traffic, letting the Vancouver public enjoy a day out in the sun. Like us, many local shops on Main St popped up tents outside their doors, along side food trucks, artist vendors, and performers. Let's recap our Car Free Day for you!
This year at Bird, we were excited to promote our many environmentally friendly artists in our street booth. Reducing, reusing, and recycling is now easier than ever! With Vancouver's new ban on plastic straws, the Glass Sipper has stepped in to fill the void with their fun and funky ornamented glass straws! Dishwasher safe and made from borosilicate glass, these straws are easy to clean and basically indestructible! Amy of Glass Sipper herself joined us at our booth to talk about her great straws, and meet the festival crowds
Next up, we had Abeego on display. A pioneer in beeswax food wraps, Abeego is our go-to zero waste alternative to plastic wrap. Using all natural ingredients, Abeego beeswax wraps keep your fruits and vegetables fresh and safe. They last up to a year and when they start to wear down - they are 100% compostable! When on the go, pack up your apple slices and sandwiches in gogoBag's eco friendly snack bags! In a variety of fabrics, and 100% kid friendly, gogoBags products range from produce bags, reusable tea bags, to straw holders and more.
Featuring these three artists in our booth this Sunday, we had so much fun introducing their amazingly sustainable, locally made creations to the festival goers through the day. We hope we saw you there!
