At Bird on a Wire, our artists have put time and care into the finer details of their craft, making many of their creations stand-alone pieces of art. Some items you’ll find are even more unique due to the materials involved; such as live-edge wood pieces, and sculptures made from up-cycled metals. We’ve put together a list our favourite one-of-a-kind picks below!

Erin’s Pick

If you want to light up someone’s spirits this season, give them a crib board as beautiful as the experience itself.  Vancouver artist Dave Smith, uses his amazing skills as a craftsman to help him create exquisite crib boards unlike any other, letting the wood speak for itself. Let me tell you, trees have a lot to say!

Dave’s crib boards are made using a combination of locally sourced & exotic woods, and are lovingly created in his workshop in South Surrey. At Bird On A Wire Creations, you can choose from slim boards with a hidden spot for the pegs, to large, live-edge boards that can stand on their end to display in your home all year long!

Alice’s Pick

If you’re looking for a truly unique, statement-making present for someone special, Lynne Fahnestalk’s robot sculptures are the perfect choice! Lynne creates funky and personality-filled bots from up-cycled metals that she finds at garage sales and flea markets. No two are alike, and her biggest fans have ever-growing collections of her bot families. Bird on a Wire Creations is the only store in the lower mainland where she has her Bots for sale. So if you have someone on your list who loves steampunk or a little sci-fi, stop by soon to browse our selection!

Stephanie’s Pick

While it’s very difficult to pick my favourite one-of-a-kind item from among so many at Bird On A Wire Creations, I have to say that Robert Andrew’s boxes are my current love. Located on Mayne Island, Robert creates beautiful, heirloom boxes from reclaimed wood and recycled materials.

On any day at BOAW, you’ll find small-to-medium Maple boxes from $40 – $120 that can hold your keys, pens, remote controls or other treasures. On the same day, you’ll also find Robert’s extraordinarily beautiful Big Maple Burl boxes for up to $450 that boast three levels to hold your entire jewelry collection!

If locally-made, ethically-sourced gifts are on your list today, Robert’s boxes are a gift that will truly last a lifetime… or three!

We hope you’ve enjoyed our staff picks of unique, one-of-a-kind gifts! Of course, these are just a small portion of the hundreds (ok, thousands!) of gifts we have at Bird On A Wire Creations. From jewellery, to sweets, cards, pottery, kidswear, wall art and more, you’ll find work from over 240 local artists every day at BIRD. So drop on by and have a browse.
